Attractions in Las Vegas
Most people who visit Las Vegas stay at one of the many hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. Just about all of them have a casino, but many of them are tourist attractions as well. If you are travelling to Las Vegas and want to get away from the hotel and casino for a little while, there are a number of non-gambling attractions to see.
First, a few words about some of the themed hotels and casinos. When you fly into McCarran International Airport, you can't help but notice the great Pyramid rising up from the desert sands. The Luxor is an Egyptian themed resort at the southern end of the strip. Just a short distance north is New York, New York which represents a miniature New York City complete with a Central Park (the casino floor) and a replica of the Brooklyn Bridge. Other fun places include Paris, Caeser's Palace and the pirate-themed Treasure Island. From high end resorts like The Bellagio and Wynn to older, but still nice places like Circus Circus or The Stratosphere, each casino has something worth checking out.
If you go a few miles past the stratosphere, you will come to the downtown casinos such as The Golden Nugget and The Four Queens. Also downtown is the Fremont Street Experience. A large heavy canvas domed enclosure runs the length of the street and features a nightly light show and music. There is often some form of entertainment right out on the street.
Another option to divert your attention away from the constant sounds of the slot machines and the confinement of the casino is to take a trip to the Hoover Dam in Boulder City. Just a short ride from Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam sits on the border between Nevada and Arizona. It has been considered one of the greatest man made engineering marvels of all time.
If you want to know about the legendary entertainer who performed on the piano wearing sequined suits and sporting diamond rings, than a visit to the Liberace Museum is in order. Other attractions include Red Rock Canyon or golfing at one of the many excellent courses.
